Surly Ultra New Mountain Single Speed is a rear hub for disc-brake singlespeed builds with classic 135 mm MTB spacing. It fits, for example, older Surly Stragglers with open dropouts and the Brother Cycles Pinecone. This version has 32 spoke holes, a six-bolt disc mount and a thread for a screw-on singlespeed freewheel.
The main difference from Surly's older New hub is the axle. The Ultra New has a hollow CrMo axle with fixing bolts that screw directly into the ends. If you want to use a quick release, remove the bolts and slide a QR quick-release skewer through, without changing the axle. The hub shell is forged and machined from 6061-T6 aluminium, with replaceable 6901 cartridge bearings that require no bearing adjustment.
