Surly: Functional Steel Bikes from Minnesota

Surly was founded in 1998 in Bloomington, Minnesota, and focuses on building versatile steel bikes.

Their design philosophy is based on two core concepts: "Steel is Real" and "Fatties Fit Fine." This means they exclusively use 4130 chromoly steel for its mechanical properties and prioritize large tire clearance on all their models. This makes their frames suitable for long-distance cycling and use in varied terrain where comfort and load capacity are important. One of their most well-known models is Steamroller, a stripped-down frame for fixed gear and single speed that has become a standard in the segment.
