Our build of the Rune Rufus Stone in size Medium. This bike was one of our most ambitious and high-end projects at Urban Bike Wear (UBW), hand-built by us during the spring and later showcased in-store as one of the season's absolute top builds.
A bike without compromises
What makes this model unique is the whole – but also all the conscious choices along the way. The wheels are hand-built in our workshop, where we can ensure perfect tension, long durability, and the elegant silver finish that defines much of UBW’s aesthetic.
The drivetrain is a statement in itself. Instead of a traditional complete groupset, we run a Shimano SLX rear derailleur together with a Dia-Compe UNO friction shifter – a solution that provides a smooth, analog feel and maximum compatibility. You can basically use any rear derailleur and cassette you want. With 36 x 11–46T, you have enough power for both steep gravel climbs and faster sections.
Brakes and cockpit for serious cycling
Downhill, you get confidence with Growtac Equal, in our opinion the market’s best mechanical brake calipers, made in Japan with impressive precision.
The cockpit consists of Rune Hilt Bar at 48 cm (595 mm c-c), a stable yet compliant solution that – together with a quill stem and 26 mm diameter – absorbs small vibrations in a way that gives a really smooth feel on rough terrain. Matched with 2.35” tires, you get a bike that glides over crushed stone rather than bouncing through it.
