Vad betyder gear ratio?
Antalet tänder fram delat med antalet tänder bak. 48 ÷ 17 = 2,82, vilket betyder att bakhjulet roterar cirka 2,82 varv per vevvarv.
Vad är en skid patch?
Den punkt på bakdäcket som träffar marken när hjulet låses i samma vevposition. Fler skid patches sprider slitaget över en större del av däcket.
Varför spelar båda benen roll?
Om du kan inleda en skid med valfritt ben fram kan vissa utväxlingar ge dubbelt antal slitpunkter. Kalkylatorn tar hänsyn till den reducerade utväxlingen.
How our Fixed Gear Calculator works
Choose the number of teeth on the chainring and rear sprocket to calculate the gear ratio, estimated speed, and number of skid patches. You can also compare nearby gear ratios and see how cadence and tire size affect speed.
A combination with 48 teeth in front and 17 in the rear gives a gear ratio of 2.82 and 17 skid patches. With 48 × 16, the gear ratio is 3.00, but the tire wears at the same point if you always initiate the skid with the same foot forward. If you can skid with both feet forward, some combinations can provide twice as many wear points.
More skid patches distribute wear across a larger part of the rear tire. The calculator therefore helps you find a gear ratio that gives the bike the right feel without continually stressing the tire in the same place.
