Chrome Union Shorts 2.0

Chrome Union Shorts 2.0 are made to work just as well at the pub as on the bike. If you commute by bike during the summer, these are exactly the kind of shorts that make life easier: thoughtfully designed for long hours on the bike, but without looking like traditional cycling clothes when you arrive.

Inspired by American military shorts and MTB baggies, the Union has a relaxed fit with a 14" inseam. Chrome’s Everest fabric has four-way stretch for freedom of movement while pedaling, along with a water- and wind-repellent DWR treatment for weather that doesn’t quite stick to the forecast. A long gusset runs through the shorts, reducing the number of seams where you sit against the saddle, which makes a big difference when they’re actually used for cycling.

Version 2.0 has several details that feel distinctly Chrome. The right rear pocket closes with a zipper to keep your phone, wallet, or keys where they belong. The left rear pocket has a hidden reflective detail that becomes visible when you’re on the bike, while the front has both regular mesh-lined pockets and a smaller coin pocket. Additional reflective details offer a little extra visibility without making the shorts look like safety gear for the rest of the day.

The Union 2.0 has no built-in padding and isn’t intended as an alternative to bib shorts for dedicated road cycling. Instead, the idea is to offer a pair of durable cycling shorts for commuting, urban cycling, gravel, and everyday wear, when you want to ride a long way and then carry on with your day in the same clothes. Compared with the Chrome Folsom 2.0, the Union is longer and roomier, with more of the relaxed MTB baggie feel that has been part of the model from the start.
