Chris King NoThreadSet Headset 1-1/8" - Two Tone Black Gold
Out of stock
Chris King NoThreadSet 1 1/8" is a classic external headset for frames with a 34 mm head tube and a straight 1 1/8" fork. The standard is EC34/28.6 at the top and EC34/30 at the bottom, with external bearing cups above and below the head tube. This is the right Chris King headset for bikes using the traditional 1 1/8" standard—not for tapered forks or frames with integrated or semi-integrated headsets.
NoThreadSet has been around since the early 1990s and is one of the components Chris King has built its reputation on. The bearings are made by Chris King themselves in Portland, with heat-treated bearings and matched steel bearing races. The design is fully serviceable, so when the headset needs attention after many miles, it can be opened, cleaned, and lubricated instead of replacing the entire headset.
The 1 1/8" version uses Chris King's GripLock system, which separates bearing adjustment from the clamping around the steerer tube. This helps the headset maintain the correct preload even when the bike is ridden hard and the terrain gets rough. The stack height is 17.7 mm at the top and 13.7 mm at the bottom, which is worth checking on builds where steerer tube length is already limited.
Two Tone Black Gold is the more expressive version of NoThreadSet. The black matte bearing cups are combined with prominent gold-colored KING markings instead of the more subtle tone-on-tone logos of the Sotto Voce versions. Technically, it is the same classic NoThreadSet, but the look is entirely different—especially on a custom build where the headset can be a visible part of the overall design.
The most important thing to check before buying is the complete headset standard. The frame must be designed for EC34 both top and bottom, and the fork must have a straight 1 1/8" steerer with a 30 mm crown race seat. If you have that combination, NoThreadSet is a serviceable 1 1/8" headset for anyone who would rather buy a component built for many years of use than treat the headset as a consumable.

Build your custom dream bicycle with us
Consultation meeting
At the first step in the process, we would like to discuss with you what kind of bicycle you are looking for, and what budget you have. It is best if we arrange a meeting for this, either in the shop or online.
Quote
After a paid deposit or purchase of a frame set, we send you a detailed quote. At this stage, there is still every opportunity to adjust the choice of parts.
The bicycle is assembled
Now things are starting to happen! The quote is finalized. We order components and put everything together ahead of the build. Depending on your choice of parts, it takes different amounts of time to assemble the bike, but two weeks from approved quote is usually enough.
The bicycle is ready for delivery
You are welcome to collect your custom bicycle. We also offer shipping to all corners of the world. From our initial meeting, we have taken your measurements so that you sit correctly on the bicycle. Before handing it over, we make small adjustments together with you and, if desired, go through how to adjust and take care of the bicycle. Happy riding! =)
