Cane Creek 40 is a tapered headset for frames with a 44 mm head tube and forks with a tapered steerer tube. The ZS44/28.6 upper and EC44/40 lower combination fits, among others, the Brother Cycles Mehteh, Stroma, and Big Bro. A lot of headset for the money from American brand Cane Creek, and a good choice when you want sealed, replaceable bearings without stepping up to the 110 series.
It is important to understand the designation before ordering. ZS44 means that the upper bearing cup is pressed into a 44 mm head tube and sits mostly inside the frame. EC44 means that the lower bearing cup sits externally on the head tube. Combined with 28.6 mm at the top and 40 mm at the crown race, this headset is designed for a standard tapered 1 1/8"–1.5" fork.
The 40 series has aluminium bearing cups and sealed cartridge bearings that can be replaced when worn out. The top cover, star nut, and bolt are included, so you get the parts needed for a standard Ahead installation.
Check that the frame actually requires ZS44/28.6 at the top and EC44/40 at the bottom before ordering. Two frames with a 44 mm head tube do not necessarily use the same headset, so the SHIS designation is the safest way to check compatibility. The bearing cups should be pressed in with a headset press. If you do not have the right tools, we recommend having the installation carried out by a bike workshop.

After a paid deposit or purchase of a frame set, we send you a detailed quote. At this stage, there is still every opportunity to adjust the choice of parts.
The bicycle is assembled
Now things are starting to happen! The quote is finalized. We order components and put everything together ahead of the build. Depending on your choice of parts, it takes different amounts of time to assemble the bike, but two weeks from approved quote is usually enough.
The bicycle is ready for delivery
You are welcome to collect your custom bicycle. We also offer shipping to all corners of the world. From our initial meeting, we have taken your measurements so that you sit correctly on the bicycle. Before handing it over, we make small adjustments together with you and, if desired, go through how to adjust and take care of the bicycle. Happy riding! =)
