Genesis CDA 20 (John Teal)

The Genesis CDA 20 is an affordable entry-level gravel bike for commuting, gravel roads, light touring, and everyday riding, without stepping up to the Croix de Fer range. The aluminum frame is the foundation of the CDA and takes much of its versatility from its big brother, the Croix de Fer.

Compared with the CDA 10, you get a Shimano CUES 2x10 drivetrain with 46/30T chainrings and an 11–39T cassette. This gives you easier gears for hills and carrying luggage, as well as higher gears when you pick up speed on asphalt. TRP Spyre mechanical disc brakes are also a clear upgrade and are easy to adjust and service.

Maxxis Rambler 700x45 mm tires provide good comfort and grip on gravel, while the CDA 20 also works well on asphalt. Mounts for a rear rack and full-length fenders front and rear make it easy to set up as a commuter, winter bike, or light bikepacking bike.

The Genesis CDA 20 is a good choice if you’re looking for a first gravel bike with a wider gear range and better brakes than the simplest entry-level models. Add bags, fenders, or a rear rack as needed, and set off wherever the road takes you.
