Gusset Squire Singlespeed Chain Tensioner

Gusset Squire SS is a spring-loaded chain tensioner for converting a bike with vertical dropouts from gears to singlespeed. It mounts to the existing derailleur hanger and replaces the rear derailleur as a chain tensioner, making it possible to build a singlespeed even on frames where the rear wheel cannot be moved to adjust chain tension.

The Squire comes with two springs and can be set up for either ”pull up” or ”push down”, so that the chain is tensioned upward or downward depending on the frame, sprocket and chainline. It works on both rigid and full-suspension frames where chain length can vary. The CNC-machined aluminum pulley runs on a sealed bearing and can be moved laterally to match the chainline, while a steel cage around the pulley helps keep the chain in place.

The construction is CNC-machined from aluminum and black anodized, with a weight of 96 grams including mounts. A convenient option when you want to build a singlespeed from a frame that was originally designed for a rear derailleur, without needing a dedicated singlespeed frameset. Note that the Squire is not compatible with 1/8"-chains.
