The Perfect Bike
Many people look for a bike that can do it all: as a commuter bike, training bike, winter bike, or for bike touring. We believe that is impossible – at least if cycling is to be enjoyable.
Gravel and Touring Bikes
As a golden middle ground for fast commuting, we often recommend a Gravel bike or Adventure bike. Here you get wider tires for a more comfortable ride, room for studded tires in winter, and the option to equip the bike with both fenders and racks. Additionally, they are built to be extremely durable.
For pure bike touring, where panniers and heavy luggage are the focus, a touring bike is preferable. It usually has a longer wheelbase to keep the panniers close to the bottom bracket, which provides a balanced bike. If the wheelbase is too short, you risk hitting your heels on the bags while pedaling. The frame is reinforced and has all the mounting points you need for racks and other equipment. A touring bike is optimized for load; it may feel a bit sluggish when empty, but in its true element, it offers unbeatable stability.
Ride Fast and Far with a Road Bike
If you want to ride fast and far, a classic road bike is optimal. It is built for high speeds with low weight and geometry that minimizes air resistance and maximizes power transfer. Pure training and racing bikes are rarely the best commuter bikes, as they seldom have mounts for fenders and require narrow tires with high pressure. But for a quick training ride to and from work, they work perfectly well.
